Thousands Expected at Brussels Solidarity March for Palestine This Sunday
A national solidarity march for Palestine is set to take place this Sunday in Brussels, organisers announced Wednesday. The event, coordinated by a coalition of civil society organisations, is expected to draw thousands of participants. The demonstration will begin at 2:00 p.m. at Gare du Nord, featuring speeches and artistic performances. At 3:00
p.m., participants will march through the city’s inner ring towards Place Jean Rey, with arrival scheduled around 4:30 p.m. A previous march in Brussels on 7 September drew between 70,000 and 110,000 people in support of Palestine. The event is organised by groups including the Association belgo-palestinienne (ABP), the Beitna collective, CNCD-11.11.11, 11.11.11, and trade unions FGTB and CSC. The demonstrations aim to maintain pressure on Israel amid ongoing tensions in the region. Organisers have stated that only the Palestinian national flag will be permitted during the march, following a request from the Palestinian community. They emphasised that the protest must remain peaceful and warned that any acts supporting war crimes, attacks on civilians, antisemitism, Islamophobia, or racism would result in expulsion. The organisers also criticised Israel’s actions despite a fragile ceasefire in early October. They allege that continued airstrikes in Gaza have caused over 200 deaths since the truce began, while vital humanitarian aid remains blocked. They further condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policies, including aggressive settlement expansion in the West Bank and ongoing acts described as ethnic cleansing.
