Cyprus embassy inaugurated in Bahrain, stronger EU-Gulf ties pledged
President Nikos Christodoulides has highlighted key upcoming milestones as opportunities to deepen relations between Cyprus, Bahrain and the European Union, calling for closer political dialogue and expanded economic cooperation. Speaking during his visit to Bahrain, Christodoulides cited Cyprus’ EU presidency , Bahrain’s chairmanship of the EU–G
ulf Cooperation Council in 2026 , and the second EU-GCC Summit as crucial platforms for turning shared interests into concrete results. He stressed that these developments could significantly advance cooperation in political, economic and strategic areas. The Cypriot president also called for deeper bilateral economic ties between Cyprus and Bahrain, encouraging new investment opportunities. He described Bahrain as a strategic gateway for Cypriot companies seeking to expand into the Gulf and the wider Middle East. “Let us therefore focus on further supporting and expanding this cooperation for the mutual benefit of our companies, our economies and our people,” Christodoulides said. Earlier in the day, Christodoulides met King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa , praising his “wise and visionary leadership” and crediting him with establishing Bahrain as a hub of international cooperation, interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence. In a message written in the guestbook at Bahrain’s royal palace, Christodoulides expressed his appreciation for both the king and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa , thanking them for their continued support in strengthening bilateral relations. He said their leadership has further reinforced the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Cyprus and Bahrain.
