Sweden Expands Access to National Government Service Centres
The Swedish government is making it easier for residents to access migration-related services through its National Government Service Centres , which are gradually taking over tasks previously handled by the Swedish Migration Agency. From now until the end of the year , the Migration Agency will phase out drop-in service centres in Boden, Gothen
burg, Malmö, Norrköping, Stockholm/Sundbyberg, Uppsala, Växjö, Västerås, and Örebro . Residents can instead visit or book appointments at National Government Service Centres for general guidance or assistance with applications. Specific case-related questions should still be directed to the Swedish Migration Agency via phone or My page . The service centres are collaborative hubs, bringing together multiple government agencies, including the Swedish Public Employment Service, Pensions Agency, Social Insurance Agency, Tax Agency , and the Migration Agency. From 5 November , certain centres will allow appointments for: Fingerprinting and photographing Document verification , such as passports, national ID cards, or EC/EU residence permit cards Residents do not need an appointment for guidance or to use the Migration Agency's digital services, but they must bring valid identification when visiting a service centre. While original documents such as national passports or alien travel documents cannot be submitted at service centres, residents may submit application forms, letters, bank statements, and residence permit cards . Not all centres offer Migration Agency services, so visitors are encouraged to check the National Government Service Centre website for available locations. For personal case inquiries, the Migration Agency continues to provide support via phone or My page , and any necessary personal visits will be communicated through official summons. During the transition period, residents can book appointments at both the Migration Agency and National Government Service Centres. This initiative is part of Sweden’s effort to streamline public services and improve accessibility for residents navigating migration processes.
