Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos emphasized on Saturday that Nicosia supports a resolution that respects international law. He added that Cyprus is closely monitoring development
s in Venezuela in coordination with the European Union and international partners, and remains in contact with EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Kaja Kallas. Kombos confirmed that Cyprus’ longstanding travel advisory, which urges citizens to avoid all travel to Venezuela, remains in effect. He also said the government is prepared to provide consular assistance to Cypriot nationals in the country, if needed, in coordination with EU partners. Earlier, Kallas stated that the EU is closely following the crisis and has discussed the situation with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. She reiterated that the EU considers Maduro to lack legitimacy, supports a peaceful political transition, and calls for restraint and respect for international law and the UN Charter, while prioritizing the safety of EU citizens in Venezuela.
