Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy Arrives at Prison
Paris, October 21, 2025 – Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has arrived at prison to begin serving a five-year sentence. ya. Shortly after arriving, the former president posted on X that he maintains his innocence: > "It is not a former president who is being imprisoned today, but an innocent man. I am confident that the truth will prevail." According to Reuters, Sarkozy becomes the first former French leader to be imprisoned since World War II, when Nazi collaborator Marshal Philippe Petain was jailed. Sarkozy’s lawyers stated that he will be kept separate from other inmates for security reasons, and that an immediate request for release has already been filed.
